Coach Pete Wright takes the helm of HTX Swims as Head Coach

We’re excited to officially welcome Coach Pete as the new Head Coach of HTX Swims and Site Director for our RICE University  location.

Coach Pete brings over 31 years of high-level coaching experience and a proven ability to build programs the right way—through long-term development, strong relationships, and high expectations. His philosophy aligns directly with what we believe at HTX Swims develop the swimmer first, stay patient in the process, and success will follow.

His impact at previous programs speaks for itself. While leading Y-Spartaquatics (SC) and First Colony Swim Team (TX), his athletes and teams achieved:

    •    21 YMCA National Team Championships

    •    13 USA Swimming Olympic Trials qualifiers

    •    5 National Junior Team members

    •    USA Swimming Gold Medal Club status

Beyond the club level, Coach Pete has contributed nationally as a USA Assistant Coach for the FINA Junior World Championships (Lima, Peru) and as Head Coach for USA Swimming’s Women’s National Select Camp. He is also a 7-time YMCA Nationals Coach of the Meet and 5-time South Carolina Swimming Coach of the Year.

What stood out most to us throughout this process wasn’t just the resume—it was the alignment. Coach Pete understands what we’re building at HTX Swims: a program focused on progression, accountability, and maximizing each swimmer’s long-term potential in and out of the water.

Outside of coaching, Pete is all about family and staying active. He and his wife Meghan have a daughter, Scarlet, along with their two dogs, Ace and Cotton. When he’s not on deck, you’ll likely find him listening to music, cooking BBQ, working out, or cheering on his teams.

We’re fired up for what’s ahead and excited to have Pete and his family as part of the HTX Swims community.

Coach Mike will continue as Competitive Director and remain on site at RICE, guiding our competitive framework and athlete progression.

Coach Jason will continue to lead our pre-competitive programming and oversee the Heights location, including Comp 3/4, Masters, Learn 2 Swim, and Lionfish Summer League.

Thank you for your continued trust in HTX Swims as we grow and strengthen the program.

See you at the pool,
HTX Swims
