HTX Swims: We Can’t Do It Without You
At HTX Swims, we know one thing for certain: swim teams and swim meets don’t happen without parent support. While we don’t mandate service hours, we do depend on families to step in, step up, and help create an amazing experience for our swimmers.
There are three big ways parents can get involved:
On Deck as an Official – helping run a fair, safe, and efficient swim meet.
As a Timer – the role we need the most at every single meet.
As a Group Parent – helping keep your swimmer’s training group organized, supported, and connected.
All of these roles are vital to the success of our team and the joy our kids get from the sport.
Why Get Involved?
You’re not just watching from the sidelines—you’re part of the action.
You’ll learn more about the sport your child loves.
Most importantly, you’ll help create the community and culture that makes HTX Swims thrive.
Join us on deck, in the stands, or in your swimmer’s group—because the team works best when we all pitch in.
Ways to get Involved.
-
Become a Swim Meet Official
Officials are the backbone of every swim meet. They keep things running smoothly, ensure fairness, and set the tone for a great competition. The best part? No experience is required—just a willingness to learn. Training is provided through USA Swimming clinics, rulebooks, and on-deck mentoring.
You can work the whole meet, one session, or even part of a session. And as an official, you’ll have the best seat in the house to watch your swimmer compete.
Available Official Roles
Stroke & Turn Officials
Walk the pool deck to ensure swimmers follow proper strokes, kicks, starts, turns, and finishes.
Starter
Work with the referee to give every swimmer a fair start.
Direct swimmers to the blocks, call “take your mark,” and manage start equipment.
Meet Referee
The leader of the meet.
Ensures compliance with USA Swimming rules, resolves questions, and reviews disqualifications.
-
Be a Timer at a Swim Meet
Timers are the most essential (and most needed!) volunteers at every swim meet. With a stopwatch in hand, you’ll stand right at the edge of the pool and record swimmers’ times.
No special training required—just show up, listen to a short briefing, and you’re ready to go.
Timers are placed in every lane, so the more parents that step up, the smoother and faster the meet runs.
It’s also one of the best views of the competition—you’re right there cheering as swimmers finish their races.
-
Become a Group Parent
Every training group needs a few go-to parents to help make communication and organization easier. Group Parents are the bridge between coaches and families, helping our swimmers feel supported both in and out of the pool.
What Group Parents Do:
Communication: Help relay updates and reminders from coaches to your training group families.
Organization: Assist with coordinating snacks, group activities, or team spirit events.
Support: Welcome new families and make sure everyone feels included.
It’s not about taking on a huge workload—it’s about being a friendly, reliable point of contact and helping our swimmers feel connected.
